Junior Bear Chase
The Junior Bear Chase includes distances of 4km (freestyle), 2km (freestyle or classic), and 1km. Young skiers are encouraged to sign up for the distance they are most comfortable skiing. Only the 4km race is timed; skiers will receive a time but there are no age group or overall awards.
Changes in 2025
- Thanks to an anonymous donor, the 2025 Junior Bear Chase is free to all participants.
- This year's Junior Bear Chase will take place on Saturday, March 8, at 3 pm ET, using the Great Bear Chase stadium.
- Each participant receives a completion ribbon and medal, their bibs, and cookies and refreshments following the race. Note that the Junior Bear Chase registration does not include the pasty luncheon.
Although there is no fee, every participant must register by Friday, March 7. Online registration is open through Thursday, March 6, at 11:59 pm ET. In-person registration takes place Friday, March 7, 4:30 - 8:30 pm at the Calumet High School multipurpose room.
Races
Skiers are invited to enter the race that suits their interests and abilities. Age recommendations are provided below.
- 1km Classic ski race (recommended for beginners (age 3-8)
- 2km Classic ski race (recommended for intermediate skiers (age 8-10))
- 2km Freestyle (suggested for skate skiers, and classic skiers with endurance, age 10+)
- 4km Freestyle (suggested for skiers looking for a challenge, age 10+)
